The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act came into force on Monday 15 August 2022, making Scotland the first country in the world to protect in law the right to access free period products. Councils and education providers are now legally required to make period products available free of charge to anyone who needs them.
The Scottish Parliament unanimously passed the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on 24 November 2020. Watch the debate here.
