MSP's from across the Scottish Parliament show support for Monica Lennon MSP's proposals to End Period Poverty

August 2022

The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act came into force on Monday 15 August 2022, making Scotland the first country in the world to protect in law the right to access free period products. Councils and education providers are now legally required to make period products available free of charge to anyone who needs them.

January 2021

The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill received Royal Ascent and became the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act.

November 2020

The Scottish Parliament unanimously passed the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on 24 November 2020. Watch the debate here.

October 2020

The Local Government and Communities Committee voted in favour of the Bill after some Stage 2 amendments on the 28 October 2020. You can watch the session here.
